Dogs and cats have different dietary requirements. Cats are carnivores, whereas dogs are omnivores and need more variety in their diet other than just meat. Cat foods are higher in protein, calories and fats than dog food. Dogs fed it regularly are at greater risk of obesity and potentially life-threatening pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the organ that aids the digestive process. Should a dog take a mouthful of cat food, this is unlikely to do the dog harm, but a dog should not be specifically fed cat food.
